Is Floyd Mayweather the greatest?
As a novist in terms of being a viewer of boxing I was always told that Muhammad Ali was the greatest boxer ever. The Louisville Slugger had moves, charisma, and confidence that could be looked at as arrogance. All my life I heard of the boxing icons like Ali, "Sugar Ray" Leonard, Thomas "Hitman" Hearns, George Foreman, Mike Tyson and etc.
But since I have been able to watch boxing, Floyd "Money" Mayweather has been the best of this era. Going undefeated throughout his entire career with his amazing defensive moves and counter punches has taken him to a level in life that he probably didn't dream of. According to the Forbes list Floyd Mayweather was placed as the highest paid athlete in the world on account of his endorsements and salary winnings. But according to an interview Floyd Mayweath had with Stephen A. Smith before his fight with Manny Pacquiao he told Stephen A. Smith that he honestly feels like he is better than Muhammad Ali.
But as I was educated about the difference between eras and boxing styles between Ali and Mayweather I honestly believe that Ali is still better. During the time of Muhammad Ali he fought every fighter and each fighter was on the same level as him or higher. Ali was sent to the hospital after the "Thrilla in Manila fight" against Joe Frazier which he won in the 14th Round by TKO. Muhammad Ali's boxing style allowed him to dodge so many punches from opposing boxers and he could also dish the same amount of punishment as well. While Floyd Mayweather on the other hand has fought many competitors. His style has put some fans to sleep because of how great of a defensive fighter he is.
Also many spectators have a probelm with the fighters he has selected. His next fight is against Andre Berto and this has many fans upset because Floyd has let it be known that his career is coming to an end soon and many believe that in order to be 50-0 he should fight the best. Andre Berto is 30-3 and 3-3 in his last 6 fights and his last fight was against Jesús Soto Karass who has lost 10 fights. Floyd has left his imprint in boxing and will be a Hall of Famer but like many others there will always be someone greater, named Muhammad Ali.
