Coming into the 2015 MLB Season the Washington Nationals were highly believed to make it to the World Series and win it all. Also with the addition of former CY Young winner Max Scherzer to the already great pitching staff to take them over the top.
But it didn't even matter, not only did the Nationals not even win the NL East to the New York Mets who haven't won the NL East since 2006. The Nationals didn't even make it to the Playoffs this year which is an extreme disappointment. What make the situation worse is that the Nationals have a good enough pitching staff, an experience Manager, but an emerging Superstar Outfielder and NL MVP Candidate in Bryce Harper.
What my main criticism of the Washington Nationals is that they rely on the pitching staff too much, and they were one of the main reasons that they were losing this year. The Offense besides Bryce Harper is way too inconsistent, whether it's lack of production or injuries that have kept key players off the field it has taken a toll on the Nationals this year. To make the situation even work I have heard rumors about the Nationals Manager Matt Williams possibly losing his job after this year, after winning the 2014 NL Manager of the Year. Then in a recent game against the Phillies Bryce Harper got into a fight with Jonathan Papelbon after Bryce was called out in the bottom of the 8th in a 4-4 game.
There is so much craziness and disfunction within the Nationals lockeroom and they need to get back to winning baseball games or they will once again become an afterthought in baseball and in the Washington DC Area.
The city of Washington DC is waiting for the Washington Wizards, Washington Redskins, Washington Nationals,or Washington Capitals to break through the ceiling and win a Championship. I personally believe that the Nationals have a great chance to do so in the future but they must not fold underneath the pressure of high expectations.
